Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Where It All Began

I grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey, a city with a rich musical history that includes jazz pianist Bill Evans, members of The Critters and Parliament Funkadelic. My parents and teachers introduced me to jazz, rock and roll, folk music, show tunes, Latin music and sounds from around the world. Live music was everywhere, including schools, houses of worship, clubs, homes and even local bowling alleys.

Learning the Foundations

I began studying trumpet with Jim Fitzpatrick, a former member of the Hal Kemp Orchestra and Tommy Dorsey Band. He taught me the importance of discipline, careful study and always striving to become the best musician I could be.

A First Step Into Performing

At thirteen, I played my first paying engagement with The Continentals, a twenty piece jazz band. I soon discovered rock and roll and began playing with the Mazur Brothers, who later performed with Robert Palmer and Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Learning From a Great Teacher

I later studied guitar with Grammy Award winning jazz guitarist Harry Leahey. Harry performed with musicians including Gerry Mulligan and Phil Woods and taught at William Paterson College.

A remarkable musician, teacher and friend who had a lasting influence on both my playing and my approach to teaching.

Performing & Recording

Over the years, I shared bills with artists including Billy Joel, Janis Siegel, Marky Ramone and The Persuasions. I also participated in recording sessions with Todd Rundgren and Kenny Laguna. In 1980, I was selected as one of ten finalists in a songwriting competition sponsored by New York City.

25+ Years of Teaching

For more than 25 years, I have helped students build strong musical foundations and discover voices of their own. I teach guitar, electric bass, and drums.

Every Student Learns Differently

I believe every student can learn, but we do not all learn in the same way. Each person enters music through a different door. My job is to help find that door, develop what makes each student unique and make the work of learning rewarding and enjoyable.
